Every year, when we start out to pick the names for our list of 100 most influential people in finance, I think the daunting part will be to find 100 people. In the end, it is always how do we ever pare the list down to just 100. Particularly in recent years in which circumstances and crises have forced finance leaders to think outside of the box to develop solutions to challenges such as Section 404 audits, globalization and catastrophic risk management, there always seem to be a plethora of individuals who have contributed some new thinking–along with those perennials who just run first-rate organizations every year. Among the trends that had an impact on our choices this year: supply chain management, corporate governance, seamless information flow, enterprise risk management and globalization. To assemble the list, we consult anyone we think might have insight into the world of finance and its thought leaders, but at the end of the day the decisions are made by the editors not on the basis of quantitative data but more based on instinct and experience. Congratulations to those who made the cut.
