Alexander Hamilton Award Finalists: 2022

Treasury & Risk is pleased to announce the finalists for next year's awards program.

Treasury & Risk still has one more category of 2021 Alexander Hamilton Awards left to present, but our judges have already reviewed the entries for our 2022 contest and come to agreement on the award decisions. Thank you to Erik Smolders, Jean-Francois Heitz, Craig Jeffery, and Marie Hollein for reviewing this year's wide range of excellent submissions and selecting the most innovative to be our 2022 award winners!

We will not announce the specific prize (e.g., gold, silver, bronze) that each company won in a particular category until we present the awards for that category, starting in spring 2022. However, we are pleased to announce next year's Alexander Hamilton Award winners—in alphabetical order within each category:

Treasury Transformation

This category celebrates projects that have achieved noteworthy success through a major revamp of corporate treasury processes. Centralization or decentralization of the treasury function, outsourcing initiatives, restructuring of treasury to support new lines of business, and staff recruitment or development programs—among other types of projects—fit into this category.

The 2022 winners are:

  • Ciena Corporation
  • Goshawk Aviation Ltd.
  • Sisecam

Technology Excellence

This award recognizes corporate treasury or finance departments for their implementation of innovative technology solutions that may be developed either internally or externally. Winning projects must be exceptionally creative, must solve a major problem, must yield impressive results, and/or must set a precedent for a best practice in treasury or finance. Projects that fall into this category could include those that solve a complex issue in financial management or compliance, improve communication or analysis of financial information, mitigate risk, or give the business a strategic advantage.

The 2022 winners are:

  • Exitus Credit
  • Kinross Gold Corporation
  • San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG)
  • Toyota Financial Services

Liquidity Management

This category is aimed at portfolio management, short-term investing, and cash visibility, as well as debt management and crisis planning to ensure adequate ongoing liquidity. Cash forecasting and cash pooling projects fit into this category.

The 2022 winner in Liquidity Management is:

  • Cenveo

Risk Management

This category includes innovative solutions in management of a variety of risk types. Projects may address financial risks, such as risks around domestic or international interest rates, foreign exchange, or commodity prices; the use of derivatives or capital markets to hedge the company's financial risk exposures; and/or management of counterparty credit risk. Alternatively, projects may address operational risks, including innovative solutions around risk assessment, identification, mitigation, and/or transfer when protecting a company's business, property, supply chain, data, employees, and/or reputation.

The 2022 winners are:

  • Medtronic plc
  • Southwire

Working Capital & Payments

This category recognizes innovations related to the collection of incoming payments and the disbursement of outgoing payments, as well as the organizational structure around management of payments and the cash conversion cycle.

Our 2022 winners are:

  • Boston Scientific
  • Genuine Parts Company (GPC)
  • Hewlett Packard
  • Lithko Contracting

Best Practices in Restricted/Emerging Markets

This award recognizes corporate treasury, finance, and risk management functions that have successfully supported business operations in parts of the world where other organizations may fear to tread. Winning projects may include pioneering solutions that overcome regional restrictions on movement of money, compliance or disclosure challenges, banking regulations, and/or cultural issues.

The 2022 winners in this category are:

  • Coupang
  • International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW)
  • Microsoft

We will be recognizing these companies with a series of webcasts and articles throughout 2022. When we present the webcast and publish the articles for a category, we will announce which "color" of award each company in that category has won. We will also delve into the best practices that made these organizations stand out in a field of truly exceptional projects, and we will garner lessons learned from the innovators themselves.
