Starbucks continues to prioritize mobile payments, announcing its investment in Square, a mobile payments start-up that will allow Starbucks customers to pay using its smartphone app. The coffee giant will invest $25 million in the tech start-up and will use its technology in 7,000 of its stores nationwide.

Mobile payment is already available in about 14,000 Starbucks stores. Starbucks already has its own mobile payment app, but hopes to complement its existing payment systems. The new system will allow users of the Square smartphone app to pay using their phone or by just giving their name to the employee taking their order.
