The former CFO of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia has beensentenced to two to seven years in prison for embezzling $906,000,according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Anita Guzzardistole 330 checks drawing on the church treasury. The defensepainted her as a gambling addict on a binge, while the prosecutionclaimed she was motivated by greed, spending the money on creditcard bills, expensive shoes and travel.

The judge denied the defense's request for probation. Guzzardihas already repaid the archdiocese $260,000, but has been orderedto pay restitution of $646,627.
